ASSISTANT, EDUCATION (PEEL) - 10 Month Contract Position
SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:
Under the guidance of their Supervisor, the Education Assistant is responsible for the delivery of education programs within schools, TRCA facilities and designated outdoor spaces within Peel. In addition, the Education Assistant supports the development of education programs and resources. Expectations outside of formal education delivery may include support for summer camps, youth volunteer programs and specialized audience programming.
Evening and weekend work is a function of the job. Occupational Health and Safety is a major responsibility of this position.
NOTE: Hiring at TRCA is contingent to the clearance of the Vulnerable Sector Screening. Candidates will be asked for a screening only where they have been selected as the leading candidate.

Post-secondary degree in Environmental Studies, Outdoor Recreation, History, Geography or other related degree;
Bachelor of Education and Ontario College of Teachers certification;
2 years of teaching experience within a school, camp, or outdoor education centre capacity;
Excellent facilitation skills;
Interactions between internal and external clients such as education stakeholders require superior customer service skills;
Excellent communication skills in all modes (written, verbal, email, etc.);
Classroom management skills in diverse environments;
Teaching skills with diverse audiences;
Valid Ontario Driver’s License (G), daily access to a personal vehicle and the ability to travel;
Standard first aid certification is required.
SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS:
Deliver curriculum linked outreach education programs at schools, TRCA facilities and designated outdoor spaces.
Daily travel to different teaching sites with required program equipment.
Work with the other teaching staff to clean, repair and identify replacement of teaching equipment and supplies.
Utilize educational expertise to support community engagement events.
Develop new programs under the guidance of Supervisor.
Other duties as assigned.
