    The Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea is a registered not-for-profit organization, located in Sidney

    BC. This aquarium of the Salish Sea features local species of fish and invertebrates and strives to

    be a catalyst for building a healthy and sustainable Salish Sea Bioregion, through learning and


    The Opportunity

    The Assistant Educator reports directly to the Director of Learning. The Assistant Educator will

    ensure that a high quality of visitor experience is provided. This is a Sunday/Monday position.

    The primary role of the Educator is to:

     Provide superior customer service to the Centre’s visitors.

     Coordinate and present public programming, including but not limited to storytimes,

    Creature Features, games, crafts and scavenger hunts.

     Supervise and mentor volunteers in their various roles throughout the Centre.

     Facilitate and teach programs geared towards preschoolers through highschool, as well

    as, lead guided tours through the Centre.

     Provide and maintain a safe, positive and clean work environment.

    Expected Qualifications

    The successful candidate should have the following skills:

     Experience in customer service.

     An understanding of the biological and/or environmental sciences, either through

    practical experience or formal education.

     Some knowledge of the flora and fauna of the Salish Sea.

     Experience with public programming and interpretation.

     Experience or certification in Early Childhood Education.

     Supervisory experience would be valuable.

     Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

     Excellent organizational and time management skills.

     A passion for the ocean and what we are doing to champion it.
