    STUDENT POSITION

    (from May to September 2019)

    OPEN COMPETITION

    The Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture is seeking Parks Natural Leaders.

    GetOutside!NB is a community youth leadership initiative led by Parks NB, the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society New Brunswick Chapter, Nature Trust of New Brunswick and Nature NB to connect people to New Brunswick nature through Parks.

    As a member of Provincial Park, the successful candidate will:

    Gain an understanding of the natural assets of the park;

    Help develop and deliver nature-based educational programs;

    Create and distribute promotional information about the programs;

    Deliver imaginative and informative nature-based programs to park visitors;

    Develop and run special events; and

    Gain mentored work experience in aspects of Park operations.

    ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

    A resident of New Brunswick;

    High School graduate;

    Registered in the NB SEED (Student Employment Experience development program);

    Strong communications skills;

    Educational background or a strong interest in natural science;

    Experience in developing and delivering programs;

    Experience working with the public; and

    Creativity and enthusiasm.

    Written and spoken competence in English and spoken competence in French is required.

    Applicants must clearly demonstrate the essential qualifications to be given further consideration. Please ensure that preferred language for assessment is identified on your resume.

    ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates who demonstrate:

    Outdoor skills training such as wilderness first aid, water safety or canoeing.

    Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application all the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

    The following operational requirements are also required:

    shift work;

    working on weekends;

    overtime and/or variable hours according to assigned schedule.

    Résumés should be in chronological order specifying education and employment in months and years including part-time and full-time employment.

    Salary: Based on student rate of pay.
