We work and play in a place steeped in colorful history and bursting with the stories of our local legends. The
Storytelling and Interpretation Coordinator brings to life our guest and staff experience through innovative
storytelling and interpretive programs. The ideal candidate is an entertaining, enthusiastic and engaging
storyteller, with experience and a passion for sharing the rich history of Banff and Jasper national parks. Key
elements of this role include developing and leading training programs for interpretive guides throughout the
Banff Jasper Collection, staying up to date with trends in interpretative practices, sharing best practices and
proactively conducting ongoing evaluations.
This position reports to the Director of Programming & Animation and works closely with the operational
interpretive teams, supervisors and managers at all attractions and tours.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY:
/ Developing, revising, updating and leading new staff through the Interpretive Training Program
/ Assist and participate in the creation and training of professional development programs for trainers
/ Ensuring all guides are delivering high quality interpretive tour content in a professional and
interactive manner, meeting the service goals and expectations
/ Conducting regular Interpretive Evaluations of new and returning guides
/ Continually working with operations teams to push boundaries and programming in guest experience
/ Champion best in class interpretation company-wide
/ Act as knowledge-keeper of corporate history and manage ongoing partnerships with Banff and
Jasper cultural organizations
/ Create content for the designing of physical interpretation pieces including panels, multi-media
presentations, physical props, etc.
/ Develop new creative and fun ways of engaging guest and improving guest experience
SELECTION CRITERIA:
/ Previous Interpretive guiding experience or educational background in Geology, History essential
/ Interpretative Guides Association or similar certification an asset
/ Experience in participating in or delivering programs that share Indigenous knowledge, awareness
and/or teachings.
/ Knowledge of interpretive theory and techniques such as storytelling, demonstrations, performance
styles, theatre programs or guided walks
/ Previous employee training experience or completing performance assessments
/ Able to provide effective, constructive interpretive feedback to department staff, regularly identifying
individual strengths and areas for improvement
/ Effective team player, ability to think outside the box with programming and problem solving skills
/ Friendly, energetic personality
/ Experience and passion for storytelling
/ Gets excited at the idea of educating staff to better inform, entertain and inspire guests in the heart of
the Canadian Rockies!
