    SENIOR COORDINATOR, EDUCATION KORTRIGHT CENTRE - 1 Year Contract Position

    SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:

    Under the direction of the Manager, Kortright Centre for Conservation, the Senior Coordinator, Education is responsible for the hiring, training, scheduling, coordination, supervision and performance management of part time, contract and seasonal education staff. Additionally, the Senior Coordinator is responsible for new program development, determining equipment and supply needs along with coordinating logistics and programming for select public events and festivals. Overall, this position plays an integral role in developing, maintaining and enhancing Kortright education and public programs. Evening and weekend work is a function of this position. Occupational Health and Safety is a major responsibility of this position.

    NOTE: Hiring at TRCA is contingent to the clearance of the Vulnerable Sector Screening. Candidates will be asked for a screening only where they have been selected as the leading candidate.

    KNOWLEDGE:

    Post-Secondary Degree or equivalent in education, environmental management, recreation management or equivalent field;

    Three to four (3-4) years’ performing environmental education activities at an outdoor education facility;

    Three (3) years’ supervision and staff scheduling experience;

    Three (3) years’ developing, coordinating and evaluating environmental education and nature based festivals/events and programs;

    Excellent communication, customer service, problem solving, leadership and presentation skills;

    Strong organization, project management, writing and time management skills;

    Demonstrated knowledge of school board policies, procedures and student curriculum expectations;

    Ability to record and track staff performance evaluations and provide recommended improvements;

    Demonstrated ability to forecast program equipment requirements and associated costs;

    Experience preparing funding proposals, sponsorship packages, reports, budgets and financial statements;

    Strong knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Office, staff scheduling software and social media platforms;

    First Aid and CPR level C, clear vulnerable sector screening, Valid Ontarion G Licence and access to a vehicle required.

    SUMMARY OF MAJOR TASKS:

    Perform the following tasks under general supervision.

    Oversee the hiring, scheduling, coordination, training and supervision of Kortright part time education staff at festivals, events, booked programs and summer camp.

    Supervise, monitor and evaluate the work performance of part time, occasional and contract staff ensuring quality of service delivery and adherence to corporate policies, procedures and health and safety regulations.

    Oversee the development of Kortright programs that support the TRCA strategic plan and corporate objectives and align with current education curriculum standards, school board policies and teacher/school expectations.

    Maintain and manage inter-departmental staff scheduling software, ensuring integration of staff scheduling with staff training, mandatory policy and lesson plan reviews and other department staffing requirements.

    Acting supervisor and event coordinator for select events and festivals, managing client concerns, planning event logistics and administering post event evaluations.

    Develop and deliver onsite and off-site media appearances that promote Kortright events and festivals.

    Plan and coordinate Kortright Summer Nature Day Camp programming, staff hiring, scheduling and training.

    Conduct annual performance summaries with part time staff. Provide coaching/mentoring and disciplinary action when required.

    Maintain program materials and equipment inventories. Replace, repair and purchase required equipment for programs and events as required. Arrange for effective storage of equipment and program supplies.

    Represent TRCA on appropriate committees, networks and partnerships.
