    About Ross Farm Museum: Ross Farm Museum, located in the scenic village of New Ross, Nova Scotia, is a living history museum that offers visitors a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience life on a working farm in the 19th century. Our dedicated team is committed to preserving and sharing the rich agricultural heritage of Nova Scotia. We are currently seeking a passionate and talented individual to join us on this journey as a Teamster.

    Position Overview: As a Teamster at Ross Farm Museum, you will have the unique opportunity to learn and practice the traditional skills of harnessing and training horses for use with wagons and historic farm implements. Your role will be pivotal in enhancing the authenticity of our historical farming operations, enriching the visitor experience, and ensuring the well-being of our farm animals.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Training: Learn and practice the art of harnessing and training horses for use with wagons and historic farm implements, contributing to the maintenance of our traditional farming methods.
    • Animal Care: Work closely with our experienced Teamster to provide excellent care for our horses and other farm animals, including their health, nutrition, and well-being.
    • Animal Records: Maintain accurate records of animal breeding and health for all our farm animals, ensuring the integrity of our heritage livestock programs.
    • Versatility: Willingness to assist with other farm tasks, including working with other farm livestock and contributing to various aspects of the farm's operations.
    • Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with other museum staff to create a cohesive and engaging visitor experience.

    Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated experience working and handling large farm animals, particularly horses; Experience working and training horse teams, and comfort in handling a stallion and breeding mares will be considered a strong asset.
    • Demonstrated knowledge, experience and understanding of farming operations, and particularly animal husbandry practices.
    • A degree or diploma in animal science or equine management or equivalent years of experience.
    • Experience in the maintenance of animal health and breeding records and a strong commitment to animal welfare.
    • Ability to adapt to historical farming techniques and practices.
    • A genuine passion for history and traditional farming practices.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with visitors of all ages.

    Position Details:

    • Application Deadline: September 29th, 2023.
    • Compensation: $23.86/hr to $25.85/hr depending on qualifications and experience.

    • This is a permanent, full-time staff position.
