    The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport's mission is to enhance economic growth and support quality of life by managing the provincial parks system and providing recreation, sport, heritage and cultural opportunities for residents and visitors.

    The Ministry is currently seeking a dynamic and highly-motivated individual who is a flexible team player for the position of Head Park Interpreter for provincial park lands at Echo Valley Provincial Park. Reporting to the Park Program Coordinator, the position will be heavily involved with public programming and the Visitor Experience team.

    As a park interpreter, you will require knowledge of Saskatchewan’s natural and cultural heritage in order to develop and deliver engaging, informative and interactive nature and recreational programs that make visitors aware of our province's unique biological and cultural diversity.

    This position runs full-time from the end of April through to September and may include seasonal part-time opportunities in the fall and winter. During the summer months, responsibilities include facilitating curriculum-based school programs, cultural interpretation, organizing special events, hosting guest presenters and guiding resourced-based recreation activities such as canoeing and camping skills. During the winter months, responsibilities include guiding recreational activities, interacting with park visitors and preparing summer materials.

    In order to be successful in this position, you will be required to exhibit sound judgement when interacting with clients and coworkers. In addition, you will be responsible for creating seasonal reports, promotional materials and other documents, and will be adept in the use of social media.

    The successful candidate will be required to work with minimal supervision, including evenings and weekends and occasionally travel to other parks which can include overnight stays. You will be required to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions and safely lead outdoor excursions. You must have the ability to lift and carry up to 23 kg, including canoes/kayaks. A valid driver's license is required. 

    You will have knowledge of:

    • Saskatchewan’s natural and/or cultural history;
    • Saskatchewan’s provincial parks; and
    • computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Internet, and social media.

    You will have the demonstrated ability to:

    • design, deliver and/or coordinate interpretive and educational programs;
    • engage, entertain and maintain positive and respectful relations while clearly and tactfully communicating information at an appropriate level of understanding with people of diverse cultures, ages, beliefs and backgrounds to create an environment that recognizes, supports, respects and welcomes diversity;
    • lead groups and ensure participants understand expectations, outcomes and park rules;
    • be creative and innovative in order to adapt to changing circumstances and to identify and develop modifications to programs;
    • collect, organize and record relevant data in a logical manner;
    • speak publicly in a clear, concise and engaging manner using a variety of communication techniques;
    • work independently and/or as a contributing member of a variety of teams to complete work assignments, achieve common goals and contribute to a positive work environment;
    • create an environment that recognizes, supports, respects and welcomes diversity of clients and co-workers;
    • independently assess, establish and adjust and complete multiple tasks while taking into consideration task complexity, frequent interruptions, deadlines, available resources and multiple reporting relationships; and
    • interact empathetically with park visitors who may be angry, confused, rude or upset by calmly and courteously acknowledging and responding to their concerns.
